The Heights and its neighbors to the west are some of Houston's most loved neighborhoods — and some of the hardest places to grow a lawn. Much of this area sits on dense Beaumont-series clay, the classic Houston gumbo, and a century of foot traffic, driveways, and remodels has packed it even tighter. Timbergrove Manor and Lazybrook add their own challenges. Every rebuild means heavy equipment, fresh fill, and regraded drainage, which leaves the yard compacted and biologically empty. Across the whole area, infill townhomes shrink sun exposure and funnel runoff in new directions.

Post-construction yards are usually compacted and nearly empty of soil biology. We start with a soil-first program to rebuild organic matter and microbial life, and recommend aeration or topdressing when compaction is severe.
Can grass grow under my big live oak?+
Sometimes. St. Augustine tolerates partial shade but will not thrive under dense canopy. We feed the areas that get enough light, recommend deep-root care for the tree, and are honest when a mulch bed or groundcover is the better choice.
