Organic lawn care in Kingwood & Humble
The team Kingwood has trusted for 25+ years — formerly Kingwood Fertilizing. We feed your soil the organic way, built for the St. Augustine, clay, and oak shade right here in your neighborhood.
We know the ground under Kingwood
"The Livable Forest" earned its name — and those beautiful pines and oaks mean shade-stressed St. Augustine, acidic pockets, and heavy clay that compacts after every storm. We've treated these exact lawns for 25+ years, from the villages of Kingwood to Humble, Atascocita, and out toward Porter and New Caney.
That local knowledge is why our organic program is tuned to your block — not a national script.
Common Kingwood lawn issues we fix
- ✓ Thin St. Augustine under heavy pine & oak shade
- ✓ Compacted clay that pools water after storms
- ✓ Chinch bugs & brown patch in summer heat
- ✓ Flood-stressed turf recovering after heavy rain
Lawn care built for Kingwood's pines, sandy loam & shade
Kingwood lawns grow under one of the densest tree canopies in the Houston area, and that shapes how we feed every yard. Loblolly pines drop a steady rain of needles from fall into spring, and when those needles mat down on St. Augustine they block sunlight, trap moisture, and invite brown patch. We recommend raking or mulch-mowing needles every week or two during heavy drop, then tucking the extra into flower beds as a natural mulch. Pine needles won't sour a lawn overnight, but years of buildup can nudge soil pH lower in spots, so we watch for it on every visit.
Managing Kingwood's sandy loam soil
Many Kingwood yards, especially in the villages near Lake Houston and the San Jacinto River, sit on sandy loam instead of the gumbo clay found across much of Houston. It drains quickly after a storm, but it also lets water and nutrients slip past the root zone before your grass can use them. Our organic program uses slow-release, carbon-rich inputs that build organic matter, so sandy ground holds moisture and nutrition longer between rains and sprinkler cycles.
Growing thick grass in the shade
Shade is the number-one reason Kingwood lawns thin out. St. Augustine needs about four to six hours of filtered sun, and many lots in Bear Branch, Elm Grove, and Kings Point get less than that. We adjust feeding rates for shaded areas, suggest mowing at around four inches, and help you decide where limbing up a tree or planting a shade bed makes more sense than fighting for turf. Pairing lawn care with Deep Root Tree Fertilization keeps your pines and oaks healthy, too.
Whether you live in Kingwood, Humble, or Atascocita, our local crew builds a program around your needle load, soil type, and sun exposure. See how our organic lawn fertilization works, or call 281-358-3378 for a free estimate.

Questions from your neighbors
Do you service my Kingwood neighborhood?+
Our Kingwood team serves Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita, Porter, New Caney, The Groves, Oakhurst, Tavola, Highlands and Benders Landing. If you're nearby and don't see your area, just call 281-358-3378 and ask.
Are you the same company as Kingwood Fertilizing?+
Yes. Thrive Fertilizing is the same family-owned, organic-first team formerly known as Kingwood Fertilizing — same local owner, same soil-health approach, new name.
What kind of lawns do you treat in Kingwood?+
Mostly St. Augustine turf on the heavy clay and oak-shaded lots common across Kingwood and Humble. Our organic program is built specifically for those local conditions.
Do you service Kings Point, Bear Branch, and Elm Grove in Kingwood?+
Yes. Our Kingwood team treats lawns across the villages, including Kings Point, Bear Branch, Elm Grove, Trailwood, Mills Branch, Fosters Mill, Forest Cove, Riverchase and Royal Brook at Kingwood. Many of those lots sit under heavy pine and oak shade, so we adjust feeding for shaded areas on every visit. If your street isn't listed, call 281-358-3378 and we'll let you know.
How much does organic lawn care cost in Kingwood?+
Most Kingwood lawns we treat run about $60 per visit on our monthly organic program. The exact number depends on your lawn's square footage, and you'll get it at your free quote. Your first service is $29.95 and includes a lawn evaluation and consultation, so you can see how we work on your yard before settling into the monthly routine.
What should I do about pine needles piling up on my Kingwood lawn?+
Rake or mulch-mow them every week or two during heavy needle drop, then tuck the extra into your flower beds as natural mulch. Matted loblolly needles block sunlight, trap moisture and invite brown patch on St. Augustine. They won't sour a lawn overnight, but years of buildup can lower soil pH in spots, which is why our crew keeps an eye on it during every visit.
Why does mechanical core aeration damage Houston gumbo clay?+
Houston's gumbo clay is dense and sticky, and it shrinks and swells with every wet and dry spell. A mechanical core aerator punches hollow tines through it, which shears St. Augustine roots and runners, leaves dried-out clay plugs scattered across the lawn, and can crack or puncture shallow underground sprinkler lines. The tines also smear and press the clay along the walls of every hole, so once the soil bakes in the summer heat you're left with brick-hard compaction pockets. Thrive's liquid aeration, included in every program, soaks into the soil uniformly and loosens it from within, with no mechanical disruption to your roots, irrigation or yard.
How does liquid aeration work on St. Augustine turf?+
Liquid aeration uses biological penetrants to break the ionic surface tension that holds compacted clay particles tightly bound together. As those bonds relax, the clay opens up, so water and air move down into the soil instead of running off the surface. That unlocks oxygen in the root zone and creates deep root channels that St. Augustine roots and runners follow downward, building a deeper, more drought-tolerant lawn over time. Because it goes on as a spray, there are no plugs, holes or torn turf.
Is Thrive Fertilizing safe for dogs and children immediately after application?+
Yes. Our program relies on our proprietary carbon-matrix nutrition and organic-first biological soil conditioners. Every application in our 100% biological program is free of synthetic herbicides, insecticides, chemical pesticides, and synthetic salts. We never post toxic pesticide warning flags or 'Keep Off The Grass' hazard signs. We only place a friendly Thrive service marker to let you know your lawn was fed—with zero stay-off-the-grass warnings required. Your family and pets can enjoy your yard naturally.
Why do you avoid traditional pre-emergent weed killers?+
Chemical pre-emergents work by stopping new roots from forming near the soil surface. That keeps weed seeds from sprouting, but it also stunts St. Augustine, which spreads by stolons (above-ground runners) that have to root down as they grow. Years of pre-emergent use leave thin, shallow-rooted turf that struggles to fill bare spots. Instead, we build a thick biological root canopy: living soil and dense, deep-rooted St. Augustine that shades the ground and chokes out weeds naturally.
